Worth A Thousand Words.

From Sasha

Leave it to Amber to score a shirt with what may be the coolest print in the known world. Both of our hunnies are so blown away by this creation from the Loving 70s that they are (almost) trying to prevent us from actually selling this shirt– something I don't think has ever happened in the history of our shop! But we are going to let it go, and give it a chance to live out its destiny– and truly this shirt wants to be worn every single day, and worn to death, by someone who loves it! Behold:

Ladies Who Love The Hunt

From Sasha

Following Amber's theme of women, clothes, and bonding, I had to share a few pics with you from my shopping odyssey yesterday!

The day started– early– at an estate sale in downtown Grass Valley, where I ran into our new friend Toni and her boyfriend Max. We met Toni on Etsy when she bought a dress from us, and we realized that she was our neighbor! She runs an Etsy shop of her own called Semina Filligree, and it is filled with awesome crocheted wearables and cool paintings– check it out! (And need I even mention that Toni and Max have some serious style…?)

I loved this incredible hand-embroidered Map of California. If the kitsch wasn't at maximum density in my house right now, it would've come home with me in a heartbeat…

After the Estate Sale, Chris and I met his mom for a Mother's Day Shopping Adventure– her idea!!! We hit every yard sale and thrift store we could find, including a big sale at Farmer Brown's in Rough And Ready (yes, that's a town) where there is a mind-boggling assortment of vintage. The stock is overflow from the costume shop next door, where I love to rent costumes, since almost everything in it was created (By Mrs. Brown herself) well before the 80s! There is no web page for this place, but it's open most weekends, so just cruise down the Rough And Ready Highway and look for the sign! But beware, you might get lost inside…

Saturday’s Child

From Sasha

Today has been the longest day ever! For some reason I woke up at dawn– even before the bird chorus– and I just couldn't get back to sleep. Now I feel like I've lived two days in one! A light (but not cold) rain has been falling all day, giving things a soft and dreamy quality. A perfect day for taking pictures…

It all started at a radiator repair place (the glamor!), which had this sign that I loved:

(I guess that would make me the Early Bird!)

We saw this sign at a salon- I'm sure I've seen a thousand like it, but there is just something amazing about this particular hand:

My father-in-law has become possessed by a very unusual Mission: he is building his own racecar to race on the salt flats at Bonneville, Utah, this summer. This little thing is going to go 100 mph, if all goes well:

Love the decades of stickers on his tool box:

There is some serious Manliness afoot.

A few hours later Amber and I find ourselves… wait for it… shopping! It was just one of those weekends where we were on a roll. We snapped some pics in front of one of the oldest thrift stores in town:

(Note the paint peeling on the sign!)

New shoes, thrifted today (a real cause to celebrate, as I seldom find shoes in my size!):

And new Giant Hat! Perfect for a grey day…

Amber looking stunningly patriotic!

Home again home again… the rain picked up so there was no taking pics outdoors, so I amused myself inside with the camera. Chris made these holders for our 7" records from two pictures of Lindsey Lohan's eyes, which I think is hilarious!

The favorite window:

This is coming to the shop ASAP– it's a miniature picnic basket (!), which frankly would make the cutest purse! It's just about the size of a little handbag:

And, finally, going out to the movies, in a brand new capelet and again the new hat!

Hope you are all having a cozy and relaxing weekend out there! See you on the other side…

Girls Gone (Shopping) Wild!

From Sasha

As much as Amber and I love to shop (as if this is not obvious by now!), the rhythms of our daily lives are very different, and we seldom get to shop together. This last Saturday was a fabulous, glorious exception. I was about to drag Chris out with me, but he was really just coming to be a nice guy, and keep me company… patient as he is, there is just soooo little for guys to look at in clothing stores. So when Amber called with the magic words "we have a babysitter" (!) I pulled cash from every nook and cranny of my house and high tailed it to her house to start our Girl's Shopping Adventure!

The Salvation Army stores of our area are so dear to us that we call them the "Salvos". Massive, random, frequently restocked, and fond of throwing sales for no other reason than "it's Friday", they are truly the churches of Thrift. It takes a true hunter and gatherer to plumb their depths, but we are up to the task! Post thrift-score, Amber chats on her cel phone outside the Auburn Salvo, in an outfit that just happens to match the sign perfectly. Her awesome skirt and shoes, by the way, were thrifted from another store a half hour before this picture was taken.

Yes, she's that good.
