She Comes In Colors Everywhere

From Sasha

I want to share with you one of the most amazing clothing gifts that I have ever been given:

My friend Teddi bought this baby in the late 60s at a supercool San Francisco boutique. She'd had her eye on it for ages and finally made the move! It is made of THE SOFTEST pink fur, and no, your monitor is not lying to you, that is brilliant PINK fur! It is fully lined in yummy satin, and closes with a giant fur button in front.

Teddi's daughter had to pass on this one, as it is just not her cup of tea (how is this possible?!?!), so Teddi thought of me. As she says, if I had been around in the late 60s, we would have been the best of friends, and no doubt shopped together like madwomen!

My cup overfloweth with love for Teddi, who brings so much joy into my life, and now… this! Wow! I am the luckiest fashion freak in the world. Now, I am just waiting for the mercury to drop below 90 so I can actually WEAR this creation!

Just The Two Of Us in California/Nevada

From Amber
(who is so excited that she finally had a night away that this post is probably about four times longer than it needs to be…)

Two weeks ago Graham, Mycie and I loaded into the car with one night's worth of necessities and headed over to Lake Tahoe's north shore to meet my mom and her husband. They had seen a band play in Kings Beach the night before and had their motel room for one more night. They offered the room to me and Graham and offered to take Mycie home to the south shore with them for the night!

It was only our 2nd night alone together since she was born two years and nine months ago! Not that we weren't going to miss this sweet little face and adventurous spirit:

But we were looking forward to some time alone, and to catching up on some sleep:

Spreading The Gunne Sax Love

From Amber
In the last week two of our fellow "indie fashion bloggers" (I always feel the need to put that in quotes) have posted a blog about Gunne Sax dresses and the Violet Folklore girls (that'd be us) who love, wear, and sell them.

Milla at The Girl Who Married a Bear posted this blog right after she took advantage of our current Buy One Get One Free sale and scored two of our best Gunnies!

And Katie at Zombie Lace, who has left us many a Flickr and blog comment expressing the way we have inspired her to lower her hemline and wear a prairie dress in public, posted this blog featuring some lovely pictures of herself in one of the absolute sweetest Gunnies I have ever seen. I just adore the pale yellow color.

My own mother wore these dresses back in the 70s and my love for them runs deep. Here I am in my favorite Gunnie from my own closet that my mom bought me off eBay last Christmas (and that I plan on wearing every Christmas and whenever else I have a chance for the rest of my life).

Check out (and contribute to!) the Flickr group Gunne Sax Girls for more. Oh and we also have a Set on our Violet Folklore Flickr account featuring all the Gunnies we've had in the shop (including two fabulous wedding dresses) here.

(We have a few new Gunnies that will be listed in the shop in about two weeks…)

Vintage Hawaiian Peasant Dresses & The Friends Who Find Them

From Amber

Of the many, many, many wonderful customers Sasha & I have had the pleasure of getting to know through our Etsy shop, it is Malloy, a vintage enthusiast of the highest order, who we have grown the closest- and shipped the most clothes off!- to.

It's gotten to the point where we shop for each other- Sasha & I find things for Malloy while out on our shopping adventures and Malloy sends us links to items on Etsy she thinks we'll like. As I wrote to her recently, the only people who know my taste in clothes better than her are Sasha and my mom!

Recently Malloy sent me a link to this beauty, for sale at Clementine's Closet:
