Dresses In Wonderland

From Sasha

Okay, I know it's not coming out til next year, but I can't help being Waaaaaay Excited about Tim Burton's film version of Alice In Wonderland. Not only is it inspired by one of the coolest books ever written, not only is it being made by one of my all-time-favorite-can-do-no-wrong directors, but the cast are my top actors and actresses of all time (Helena Bonham Carter has been winning my heart for decades, and Johnny Depp, well, no more needs to be said). Mia Wasikowska, who plays Alice, is new to me, but I already love her. I mean, she is Australian, she didn't dumb down her last name, and she has a face that is beautiful and intelligent. And the costumes, especially Alice's dress? Hello Dreamy!

Okay, eye candy I promise you and eye candy I deliver:

Does Alice acquire this awesome dress mid-movie or something? We'll have to wait and see, I guess!

Okay, can't resist one more pic of Mia, from her shoot for Teen Vogue:

I hope this means that more fairy-tale-esque and romantic dresses will be hot in popular culture this year. You know me, never a fan of Modern and Boring. Tulle, lace trim, and the flouncy skirts: yes please!

A Feast for the Eyes

From Sasha

Just for kicks, I decided to assemble the pictures that have been fascinating me this week. I am hardly the consistent kind of person who could keep an actual "Lookbook", but I was intrigued by what caught my eye during this one particular period of time!

First, this snapshot of Anita Pallenberg, Queen of the Rolling Stone entourage. I love her next-to-nothing outfit accented with the huge leather belt. I spend most of my summers in a (way sloppier) version of her shorts and t-shirt get-up, and just looking at this reminds me that warm days will come again soon!I love the old cars in the background, too.. and the intriguing children's book in her hand.

My band, Sasha and the Shamrocks, has been covering "White Rabbit" by The Jefferson Airplane, and it is the most fun I have ever had with a cover song. Of course I can't sing like Grace Slick, but it feels so good just to try. I hear she wrote "White Rabbit" after spending twelve hours on acid listening to "Sketches of Spain" by Miles Davis. How cool is that? I love her kick-ass attitude, so evident in her voice, and in this picture:

I have been fretting over what I am going to do when summer comes and I can't wear my favorite hat, which is made of wool. Then I saw this… vintage Balenciaga. Sign me up!

Devil’s Dairymaid

From Sasha

I just love my talented friends! My amazing pals Kymmy and Denah from San Francisco made this beautiful film on real 16mm, and asked me to be their muse… it was my first time "acting" (although it can be argued that a woman acts every day of her life! ha!) and I was so happy they gave me this chance. It was super fun and the film, well, what could be better than something called "Devil's Dairymaid"??? They did all the music too (they have their own fabulous band called The Cameos)! This is the first time it has been available online, so roll out the red carpet, here is my debut!!!

(That's a Gunne Sax dress, btw!)

If you would like to contact Denah about this film or any of her other fabulous work you can e-mail her here:

Thanks Kymmy and Denah for being true forces of creativity in my life, and in the artistic community of Northern California!

1986 Called and They Want Their Sunglasses Back

From Sasha at Violet Folklore

In the middle of this last weekend’s photo shoot, I had an Amazing Revelation. The moment that Amber– Boho Mamma and Earth Tone Lover extraordinaire– puts on a pair of wayfarers and an 80s sweater, she suddenly becomes a pure channel for Sloane Peterson, Ferris’ girlfriend in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!

No, really. If you need convincing, I have solid evidence:

Her secret power is a secret no longer! Now if only we can find a white fringed leather jacket and matching boots… (Universe, so you hear me?!?!?!) Amber, you have 80s magic to the max!
