The Song of the Siren Remains the Same

Hello dear ones.

Things have been shifting quite a bit in my life, and it’s time to share some about it here on (as Milla would so delightfully say, as if life were nothing less than some grand adventure on the high seas) my log.

The Good:

I have reduced prices on most every item in the shop. I have also set up a coupon code to get my besties *15% OFF* of any purchase, any time, forever. Type “violet” in to the little code box at check out.

The Bad:

Okay, this one is bad and good. When Violet Folklore made its Facebook debut, there was no such thing as a Fan Page. It was a regular old page with regular old friend requests and all that comes with it. I have finally set up a legitimate Fan Page for Violet Folklore Vintage. It’s basically going to take the rest of my natural life to get as many fans there as I have friends now. Though the payoffs in the long run will be worth it. So please- Like it, love it, want some more of it! (And go ahead share it with your friends and loved ones).

The Ugly:

Winning, Traveling, Previewing

First things first- congrats to Alison from Rags and Feathers Vintage for being randomly selected to win the 4th of July Dress Giveaway!

I just got back from a little trip down I-5 with my sister and daughter, visiting kinfolk at a few stops along the way. The Central Valley was hot as ever, and we were happy to play in the sprinklers at Grandma & Grandpa Hill’s house.

Across the street there is the high school where my grandparents met and fell in love 60 years ago :-)

The Hill House was designed by my great-grandmother Maggie Lorene and built in the 1940s, and has been in our family ever since. My dad is now living there and taking care of his parents, making him the 3rd generation to reside at “the homeplace”. And making Mycie the 3rd generation to grow up playing in this yard.

Maggie Lorene loved magnolia trees, and planted one as soon as they moved in. The one in this photo has been there much longer than that though.

Her affinity for these flowers may have unconsciously influenced my dad to refer to me as Magnolia when I was in utero, inspiring a lifelong nickname for me.

On the way home we did something I can’t believe we’ve never done on our hundreds of trips through the heart of California- stopped at the world famous Pea Soup Andersen’s. I dug the European folk aesthetic of the decor, and the split pea soup was delicious. I think it’s become a new family tradition.

Cause Baby, You’re A Firework: Dress Giveaway!

Yep. Quoted Katy Perry.

**GIVEAWAY TIME!** (Label: Bonnie Jean, bust: 17, waist: 19, length: 40)

Leave a comment and you could conceivably win this pretty 4th of July dress. I will announce a randomly chosen winner next Tuesday.

Speaking of our fine nation’s birthday party, check out this amazing top that Suuzi recently scored. It will be listed in the shop very soon.

You better believe that this was my biggest modeling risk yet! :-)

The Joy of Summer: 90’s Fashion and Extended SALE!

*By guest blogger & Violet Folklore model Suuzi*

After a lengthy delay, summer is here! The coldest, wettest spring in 50 years is done and I’m outside gardening and having fun. Around our small town, I have a reputation for dressing to impress. People also know that I have a garden, chickens, and goats.

I’ve had people ask on more than one occasion, “What do you wear when you’re working?” To be honest, I mostly dress the same as I do day to day. If I get a little dirt on me, so what? Here I’m rocking two new wardrobe additions that epitomize the early 90s style that Amber and I are loving so much these days: my hot pink silk high-waisted “Mom shorts,” and a 90’s rayon romper.

The pink gloves are to protect my hands from the nettles I’m harvesting. My husband Spencer and I eat the nettles steamed, they are full of minerals and absolutely delicious! It is hilarious to feed them to the goats and watch them chow down like its no big deal. For some reason the stings don’t penetrate their otherwise soft, silky muzzles and mouths.

The sale has been extended continues through Sunday at midnight, 30% off summer clothes to dress up or get dirty.
