The Last Rainy Day Of Spring

I hope so at least. I heard on the radio today that the Sierras are at 143% snow pack compared to last year. So even though the last few years have been drier than usual, we are doing all right.

And I am so very ready to bust out my summer dresses!

For now I am wearing this.

The fabulous high waisted skirt I got a few days ago at my ever beloved FreeStyle Clothing Exchange. I had one similar to it but my friend’s adorable daughter bumped into me while twirling around at a Christmas Eve party and I spilled wine all over it :-(

But that is okay now because this one is even cuter with that little dip right in the middle :-)

Top: thrifted
Green shrug thingy: thrifted (I wear it all the time! It makes most any outfit look better! You will be seeing it on this blog a lot!)
Tights: Maggie’s Organic, from our local food co-op (another that I wear all the time)
Boots: consignment store (yet another all the timer)
Earrings: FreeStyle, like the skirt
RingCrimson & Clover, by Porkchop Rules, I wrote about it in my blog The Vintage Scene in Sactown

Another One!

Ha! I love this! Remember when I blogged about the sweet 70s sweater that I got on Etsy? I didn’t know it was Kmart when I bought it. I just now went and looked through my “Purchases” folder and saw that the seller, though she listed the rest of the information on the tag, chose to leave out the brand. So funny, I love the Kmart thing and definitely added it in my description of this lovely, just listed sweater:

I did a search on Etsy and, though a few other Kmart sweaters came up, none were in this style. I would love to come across more, whether in person or online, in the future…

Taking Care Of Me, So I Can Take Care Of Everything Else

Putting it out to the public holds me to it and allows me to share information I’ve been lucky enough to come across with other people. So, here are the things I’ve committed to do every day in order to get my body and spirit to a healthier place this spring and summer (so that my immunity and mental health are as strong as they can be in the coming fall, winter, and beyond…).

The links will take you to websites and articles (some written by me and Sasha) relevant to the subject at hand.

Let’s do this in chronological order, from morning to evening:

Oil pulling with coconut oil first thing in the morning. I learned about this ancient Ayurvedic technique last year at the Northern California Women’s Herbal Symposium from the lovely and amazing Rupam Henry. I do it 1) because I have an unfilled cavity and I want to keep the space around it as clean as possible and 2) because it is a gentle cleansing technique. I tend to agree with Susan Weed and most other herbalists that harsh cleanses- like fasts and intense purgatory herbs- are not good for the body in most cases.

After oil pulling, and while breakfast is being prepared, I strain out the two separate quarts of nourishing herbal infusions I started the night before. One infusion is always stinging nettle, which I use for so many reasons, but mostly as an iron supplement for my borderline anemic condition, and the second alternates between peppermint, comfrey, red clover, catnip, and seaweed, depending on what I feel my needs are that day.

Back Porch Photos

Ohhhhh boy. Anyone else out there on WordPress? I am so frustrated with how complicated it is to get photos up on here! It took me hours to post the Minnie blog the other day. With this one I didn’t even try to post each individual photo, and am just throwing it all up here in this format. (And what, BTW, do you think about this format versus a vertical list of photos, all visible on one page? Feedback please!).

The first six pages are all clothes and shoes that are ether already listed or about to be listed in the shop. Page seven is some fun things Graham and Mycelia got at a church rummage sale on Saturday (I especially love the Peace In The Space Age pin, I had just been telling Graham that I want an old school NASA bumper sticker, but this is just as good!). Page eight is photos of the fam, and page nine showcases some of our homes interiors- the girl’s bedroom and my summer dresses! (Speaking of the photos of my summer dresses- another thing I hate about WordPress is that it cuts off the edges of photos and I don’t know how to fix that. You can click on any individual photo within the quadrant to make it bigger and ensure that you see the entire image).
